Abstract

The formation of diplomatic language has a specific historical context, reflecting the style and taste of diplomats as speakers and the local and contemporary style of diplomatic language. Chinese diplomatic discourse has been characterized by politeness and decency, confined to its national character. However, as China's national power rises, a number of atypical diplomatic languages have emerged, with more flexible language forms and more individualistic or even capricious wordings, which are intentionally close to folk discourse and Internet terms. Atypical diplomatic language, with the features of expressing individual attitudes, using figures of speech frequently and having contextual time effectiveness, has attracted increasing attention in recent years. This study analyzes the typical and atypical diplomatic discourse and the possible problems in the English translation of atypical diplomatic languages in terms of the Foreign Ministry’s warnings to the U.S or Taiwan independence forces during the past ten years, the solution strategies the and language effect.
