Today, with the development of the network and the huge scale of netizens, the network has become an important carrier that is inseparable from people's lives. The Internet is a "second society" that is closely related to but different from reality. Whenever there are social events and public events with great influence, the flood of online rumors will always follow. Online rumors will not only cover up the truth and cause social panic, but also lead to people's distrust of social morality and government governance, which will lead to cyber violence and even social unrest. However, the information in the online world is vast, and managing online rumors is a difficult problem in managing modern society. Therefore, the author attempts to analyze the harmfulness of online rumors from the perspective of combining criminology and sociology, and explore the motivation of rumor makers from the perspective of criminology, and finally put forward some countermeasures and suggestions for the governance of online rumors.
