It is discovered that the word entering “X” slot of the “X Li X Qi” is mainly appears monosyllabic, with a much small number of disyllabic words; meanwhile, “X” with two syllables will be coerced into one syllable. As for the selection of “X” initials and finals, the overall performance of the construction is its preference for the back voice and sounds articulated close to the palate and level tones—Ping, as well as its inhibition of “i” and oblique tones—Ze.
