A Corpus-based Study of Verb Errors in High School Students’ English Writing

Abstract

This paper is based on corpuses to solve the verb errors in high school students' English writing. This article is guided by error analysis theory, combined with literature analysis, to find out the problem of verbs in high school English writing, using Antconc 3.2.4 as a retrieval tool, combined with the use of the Chinese learner corpus and the COCA corpus, to help high school students solve the problem of English writing. According to the classification of the Chinese Learner English Corpus, the errors of verbs can be divided into the following categories and marked in corresponding ways. Marking methods include: Vp1 (transitive form), Vp2 (fixed phrase), Vp3 (subject-verb agreement), Vp4 (infinitive), Vp5 (infinitive), Vp6 (tense), Vp7 (voice), Vp8 (Tone), Vp9 (Mood). The author gave many examples to help researchers and learner to analyze errors and mistakes by using corpus during English learning so as to improve students’ English writing.
